New Value Solutions, an IT Consulting company, is seeking an Expert-Level Climate Consultant to develop a standardized greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions methodology and calculator for British Columbia’s health sector. This initiative will help modernize emissions tracking and reporting across multiple health authorities, enabling better environmental decision-making and policy development.

Responsibilities:
  • Lead the development of a comprehensive GHG emissions calculation methodology tailored to the health care context in BC.
  • Identify and assess material emissions sources across seven health authorities.
  • Define organizational boundaries and calculation processes for Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions.
  • Adapt existing regional methodologies for provincial application.
  • Design and build a flexible emissions calculator that accommodates regional differences and integrates with external reporting tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau).
  • Conduct system mapping and data flow analysis for Scope 3, Category 1 (Purchased Goods & Services).
  • Facilitate stakeholder engagement sessions, including workshops with the BC Health Organizations Emissions Working Group.
  • Provide a detailed methodology guide with templates, assumptions, emission factors, and calculation examples.
  • Test the calculator using sample data and deliver baseline emissions calculations.
  • Present findings and recommendations to internal stakeholders and working groups.
Requirements:
  • Minimum Expert-level consulting experience (10+ years directly related or equivalent education/experience).
  • Proven experience developing GHG emissions methodologies and calculators (Scope 1, 2, and 3).
  • Familiarity with GHG accounting standards (e.g., GHG Protocol, ISO 14064).
  • Experience working with public sector organizations (e.g., health authorities, Crown corporations).
  • Strong facilitation, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Understanding of health care operations and sustainability challenges.
  • Experience with emissions data systems and reporting tools.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively across diverse teams.
  • Must be legally able to work in Canada.
Preferred Skills:
  • Experience with emissions from anesthetic gases, metered dose inhalers, and medical supply chains.
  • Knowledge of procurement systems using UNSPSC codes.
  • Familiarity with BC-specific emissions factors and data sources.
  • Experience designing survey tools for employee commuting emissions.
